Mr. William Cecil "Buddy" Bates, 79, of Lobelville passed away Wednesday June 19, 2019 at Perry Community Hospital. He was born in Old Hickory, Tn. to the late Cecil Lee Bates and Bonnie Mae McCoy Bates. He was owner/operator of Bates Backhoe. He was a member of the Lobelville Masons, graduated from Lobelville High School as Class Valedictorian, attended Falls Business College on a Basketball Scholarship, loved duck and goose hunting, fishing and golf. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his first wife Wanda Lounell Nutt Bates, a son Cecil Lee Bates, a grandson Warren Bates and son-in-law Kenny G. Rogers. Survivors include his wife of 18 years Pauline Sharp Shanes Bates, daughters Marie Bates, Trina Rogers and Lou Ann Bates all of Lobelville, sons Jackie (Donna) Bates of Linden and Chris (Diane) Shanes of Only, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildre, 7 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Martha Jane Grace and Shirley Jean (Gary) Rieck both of Columbia and Donna (Roger) Renue of Knoxville, brothers Thomas and Wade Bates both of Lobelville and a host of other loving family members including many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
