Brownie Sue Barber

Brownie Sue Barber, age 92, of Linden, Tennessee, passed away on December 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born August 13th 1933 in Linden, Tennessee, to the late James and Geneva (Qualls) Barber. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Rodger Barber and her brother Harold Dean Barber.  She was a Parnell student and a graduate of Linden High School. Brownie Sue loved all her friends and high school classmates dearly.  She truly enjoyed attending all of her class reunions. 

Brownie Sue loved many things, most of all her family and her grandchildren.

Brownie Sue had a passion for flowers, plants, and enjoyed all things gardening.  In fact, she turned a two-acre limestone hillside full of ivy and honeysuckles into a beautiful rock and flower garden.  She had many visitors from all over who came to view and enjoy her garden and some even left with plants to enjoy in their own garden.  Brownie Sue could tell you every common and Latin name for all the flowers she had in her garden.  At last count, she had over 100 different roses throughout her garden.  Most people didn’t know that she’s had professional weddings photographed in her garden, and Tennessee Volunteer Gardener TV show wanted to do an episode, but she turned them down. 

Brownie Sue loved all things literature and was a very avid reader and loved poetry.  She could still recite 10-minute poems that she remembered from grade school and high school and was reciting them as recently as this past Thanksgiving.

Brownie Sue’s most important achievement is the fact that she never missed attending the Lords Church.  She attended church all her life until she was no longer able due to her health.

Brownie Sue worked 34 years for Washington DC garment plant in Linden, 1 year at Levi Straus in Centerville, and 18 years for Johnson Control before she retired.  

Brownie Sue is survived by her children:

Rodger Barber and wife Lisa of Linden, TN. Timothy Barber and wife Sherri of Waynesboro, TN

She is also survived by her grandchildren:

Savannah Dugger, and her husband Tyler Dugger of Centerville, TN, Jordan Barber and his wife Christina of Linden, TN and Graceli Barber of Waynesboro, TN.

In addition to her children and grandchildren she is also survived by her brother Jerry (Margie) Barber of Linden, TN

Brownie Sue will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
