Freida Whitwell Lewis

Ms. Freida June Whitwell Lewis, 86, of Linden passed away Tuesday June 8, 2021 at St. Thomas West in Nashville. She was born in Perry County to the late Kent Whitwell and Evelyn Duncan Whitwell.  

Freida was born June 1, 1935, on Marsh Creek, Perry County, TN as the fourth of nine children born to the late Kent and Evelyn Duncan Whitwell.

On September 17, 1954, she married the love of her life, John Howard “Tony” Lewis. To their union of 55 years, three children were born: Jill, Rose, and Whit. Freida worked outside of the home briefly, but her greatest vocation was that of housewife and mother. She was a devout Christian who lived her faith daily. She was fondly called the “Prayer Warrior of Lower Cypress.” As her health declined, she spent countless hours studying her well-worn Bible. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband John Howard "Tony" Lewis, siblings Arden Whitwell, Helen Moore, Anthony (infant), Gail Pearcy, Linda "Lou" Loggins, Andy Whitwell and Patrick (infant).

She is survived by: sister Emily Wooley, her children Jill (Terry) Duke of Darden, Rose (Lynn) Moore of Parsons and Whit (Brenda) Lewis of Linden, grandsons Jacob (Lauren) Duke, Seth (Jessica) Duke, Jon Cullyn Moore, great grandchildren Judson, Bennett, Charlee Ann, Chandler, and Caroline and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Phil Cearley, Dale Lewis, Randy Pearcy, Jacob and Seth Duke and Jon Cullyn Moore. Honary Pallbears Judson and Bennett Duke.

 While visiting or attending services for Ms. Freida Lewis,  the family asks that you please consider the following guidelines:
* Masks are optional.
* Maintain 6 feet between yourself and the next closest person;
* Refrain from hugs and handshakes;
* When you sneeze or cough, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth;
* Wash your hands often;
* Avoid touching your face; and
* Minimize time spent in places where people gather.
