Frelon Howell Obituary

Mr. Roy Frelon Howell, 91, of Linden, passed away Friday June 27, 2025 at Decatur County Healthcare. Frelon was born on Cedar Creek to the late Roy Robert Howell and Maggie Broadway Howell. He was a United States Army Veteran. He graduated from Linden High School in 1952, where he played Basketball. He was on the second team that went to the State Tournament in Memphis under the leadership of Mr. Willie Hudson. They ended their season as Second place in the State.

In 1955 he married Lois Inman and was drafted in the Army. He was stationed in Alaska for a year, where he was trained as a heavy equipment operator on road construction. This training proved to be very valuable as he worked on I-40, Natchez Trace, Highway 64, I-24, Lexington and Jackson Airports and building pads for Walmart, Prisons and housing projects. Through the years he wore various hats in road construction until he was 80 years old.

Frelon began farming at the age of 8. With a blind calf and plow he made out of  tree limbs and an old shovel blade. He loved to coon hunt and ride horses. He was President of the Perry County Saddle Club for many years. When he got where he couldn't walk the hills and climb on horses, he started trail riding with mules and wagons. He also enjoyed trot line fishing with his brother John. At age 72 he learned how to line dance and usually danced 3-4 nights a week until age 90. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lois Inman Howell, a granddaughter Holly Howell and a sister Tommie Howell Inman.

Survivors include his children Rendia (Thomas) Ward, Jovhina Sue Howell and Robert Howell, all of Linden, grandchildren Wess (Lindsey) Ward, Bryce (Jordan) Howell, Seth, Hayden and Jayden Howell, great-grandchildren Dellarose, Declan and Sutton Ward, Branson Mercer, Eisley, Atticus, Lorelei and Rowan Howell and Willow Flynn, a sister Jo Nell Moore of Franklin, a brother John Howell of Linden and a host of other loving family members and many, many friends.
