Joel Ramey

Earth lost one of its most humble, kind souls Saturday evening November 26, 2022 as Joel Ramey, 58 of Florence, Alabama, peacefully crossed over in the presence of a dear friend after his beloved Crimson Tide won the 2022 Iron Bowl over Auburn. Upon receiving his recent diagnosis, Joel told his doctor he wanted to live through the Alabama season. A devout fan, Joel was always the optimist even this season. He loved his team. He played guitar and loved music especially rock and roll and the blues. He enjoyed the nearby Tennessee River and fishing and enjoyed learning whether he was watching the history channel or reading biographies of musicians.

He worked for nearly 20 years as an Engineering Assistant for ALDOT. He was a good friend, devoted nephew and cousin and a good neighbor. He'll be missed by Ms. Jimmie his neighbor and her dogs who had grown fond of his daily treats.

He will be deeply missed by three devoted friends, Ric and Prissy Robbins and Anita McCormack who thoughtfully tended him in his final weeks by keeping him supplied with sweet tea and his favorite foods and surrounded by photos and Alabama memorabilia in his last days.

Joel was preceded in death by his mother Cola, his father Jack, his grandparents Clifford and Sarah Young and Louie and Pearl Ramey and numerous aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his aunts Dean Kirk and Nancy Carollo of Linden and numerous cousins in Perry County, other parts of Middle TN and New York.

Joel had every reason to be a difficult patient amidst all the testing, surgeries, and treatments he endured over the recent weeks. Instead he was always expressing his thanks to staff for their help. His friends and cousin are appreciative especially of Dr. DeSelles and Dr. Anjum at North Alabama Medical Center and the many nurses and staff who were present for Joel these past weeks.

A memorial will be held Saturday December 10th at 1:00 P.M. at the Commodore Hotel in Linden, Tn. with internment of ashes by his mother Cola in Linden at a later date when weather permits.
