Ronald Blackwood Obituary

Mr. Ronald Ernest Blackwood, 79, of Scotts Hill, Tennessee passed away Thursday June 23, 2022 at Jackson-Madison County Hospital after a year’s long battle with health issues caused by his third stroke. Cremation was chosen with interment to be at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.

Mr. Blackwood was born in Rock Hill, SC to the late Carl Cleveland Blackwood and Bertha Mae Lavender Blackwood. He was a beloved father, Brother, Grandfather and Uncle. “Ronnie” Blackwood was a kind, loyal and forthright man with a genuine zest for life, laughter and far flung adventure. With a deep love of classic country and rock music, he also spread joy for decades to those fortunate to hear him sing and play with his bands, from locales as various as San Francisco and Chicago, to Alaska and Japan.

A 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, through reenlistment, Mr. Blackwood served in wartime in both Vietnam and Iraq, retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Even through great adversity, he never lost the twinkle in his eye, or his love of the ideals America aspire to when she is at her best.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his brothers Ken and Gene Blackwood.

Survivors include his son Wesley Blackwood of Scotts Hill, Tn., three grandchildren, a sister Pam, brother’s Jim, Johnny and Bobby Blackwood, several nieces and nephews and other loving family members.

Whether you were a friend or family, he never abandoned the people in his life. His innate goodness and sense of honor kept that from being a question that would ever even occur to him. Ronnie was loved and will be missed; the world is a little less bright with his passing.
