Obituary

Samuel James “Sam” Coblentz was born to Dan and Clara Kramer Coblentz on November 22, 1958 in Norfolk, Virginia. After a brief battle with cancer, he peacefully departed to his eternal reward on June 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

He reached the age of sixty-two years. As a child he was privileged to live in a variety of places with his parents. One of these, was when his parents moved their family to Brazil in 1969, his stay in Brazil created a love bond for the country and its people. Due to this move he only received a 5th grade education. In spite of this he was adept at learning and acquiring new skills, and learned to understand 5 languages. His occupations included, farming, brick and block laying, running a bakery, excavating, house and pole barn construction and repairing and installing gas pumps. He also worked as yard man, small engine repair man and cashier at General Hardware, Lobelville TN. As a child of twelve years he heard the Lord’s call and gave Him his all. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite at the Monte Alegre congregation in Brazil on March 8, 1970, by Minister John Penner. He was married to Erma Jean Yoder, on February 6, 1977 at the Monte Alegre Church, Rio Verde Brazil by Minister Richard Mininger. He enjoyed 44 years together with his wife. His home was blessed with two sons. Samuel had a caring nature and felt deeply for the needs of others and will be remembered as someone that could connect at a heart level. He appreciated the small things in life; family camping trips and fishing with friends. He also enjoyed dogs, feeding the birds, keeping honey bees, organic gardening and growing flowers, especially orchids. Making charcoal, grilling meat and hamburgers on Saturday evenings for his parents was also special interests of his. His love for the Lord led him to spend two years in Mexico and five years in Brazil as a missionary. This kind of service to mankind was a dream fulfilled that left precious memories and special friends. Preceeding him in death are his grandparents, parents-in-law, three brothers-in-law, one nephew and one niece.

Those left behind are his bereaved wife, Erma, and children Frank and Brenda and children, Lia, Bryson, Shawn and Kiana of Leesburg, Ohio; and Isaac and LaVonna of Soldotna, Alaska; his parents, Dan and Clara of Lobelville, Tennessee; his brothers, Jon and Ann of Linden, Tennessee; Tom and Patsy of El Campo, Texas; Will and Miriam of Leesburg, Ohio; and his sisters, Becky and Bill Mininger of Vale, Oregon; Diana and John Wadel of Rector, Arkansas; Tina and Delton Ensz of Burlington, Wyoming; sister in law, Clara Coblentz of Jeromesville, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
